Interests

This is a list of interest categories and the interests within each category. Click on an interest to learn more about that item. If you are logged in, you will also see the members who have declared that interest, with a link to their member directory entry.
 
Paddling Venues

Lakes Members: 36
Examples - Lakes Jocassee and Keowee in South Carolina  
Rivers Members: 36

Swamps Members: 32
Examples - Okefenokee in south Georgia, Sparkleberry near Charleston, SC  
Surf Members: 20
Examples - the Triangle near Tybee Island, the barrier islands near Charleston  
Salt Marsh Members: 36
Examples - Little Tybee Island, GA; coastal marshes near Folly Beach, SC  
Coastal Ocean Members: 32
Examples - barrier islands off the Georgia coast, Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail  
 
Daily Trip Distances  
Select your preferred daily trip distances (multiple selections are allowed).
Less than 10 miles per day Members: 27
A 3 to 4 hour paddle assuming no wind or current and a relaxed pace.  
10 to 15 miles per day Members: 36
A 3 to 6 hour paddle assuming no wind or current and an average pace.  
15 to 20 miles per day Members: 23
A 6 to 8 hour paddle assuming no wind or current and an average pace. Usually implies a start not later then mid-morning to ensure a finish before sunset.  
Over 20 miles per day Members: 10
Minimum of a 6 to 7 hour paddle assuming no wind or current. Usually involves an early start to ensure a finish before sunset.  
 
Trip Durations  
Select your preferred trip durations (multiple selections are allowed).
Day trips Members: 40
Trips that begin and end on the same day.  
Multi-day trips Members: 35
Trips from two days up to a week.  
Longer adventures Members: 15
Trips of a week or longer  
 
Paddling Pace  
Select your preferred paddling pace (multiple selections are allowed)
Under 3 mph Members: 26
A relaxed pace with frequent pauses to take pictures or chat.  
3 to 4 mph Members: 36
Occasional breaks for pictures or chats. The pace while paddling is usually 3.5 mph to 4.0 mph.  
Over 4 mph Members: 9
An exercise, heads down pace with few breaks.  
 
Days and Times  
Select your preferred paddling days and times (multiple selections allowed).
Weekends Members: 40
Saturdays and Sundays with an occassional Friday. Includes Fridays and Mondays when they are holidays.  
Weekdays Members: 17
Usually available Mondays through Fridays.  
Early morning Members: 23
Available for early morning (dawn) launches (6:30 am to 7:30 am). The availability for a specific trip may depend on the drive time from the member's home to the trip launch location.  
Mid to late morning Members: 23
Available for mid to late morning launches (9:00 am to 12:00 noon).  
Early afternoon Members: 16
Available for early afternoon launches (after 12:00 noon).  
Moonlight Members: 19
Available for moonlight paddles (after sunset with an early moonrise).  
 
Lodging  
Select your lodging preferences for multi-day trips (multiple selections are allowed).
Cabins or hotels Members: 29
Includes cabins offered at parks and reasonably priced hotels.  
Camping with facilities Members: 33
Camping with hot showers, toilets and potable water.  
Primitive camping Members: 28
May have some facilities, but usually no hot showers, toilets or potable water. Leave No Trace principles apply.  
 
Places to Paddle  
Select your preferred places to paddle (multiple selections are allowed)
Metro Atlanta Members: 27
Within a 60 minute drive of I-285.  
North Georgia Members: 28
North of Metro Atlanta.  
West Georgia Members: 21
Primarily the Chattahoochee River basin near Columbus. Includes the eastern border of Alabama.  
South Georgia Members: 17
Primarily the center of Georgia south of Macon.  
Coastal Georgia Members: 34
Locations on the coast or within 50 miles of the coast.  
East Georgia Members: 30
The rivers and lakes on the Georgia/South Carolina border. Also, the center of Georgia south of Metro Atlanta and north of Macon.   
Alabama Members: 16
All locations in the state with an emphasis on eastern and southern Alabama.  
South Carolina Members: 22
All locations in the state with an emphasis on the lakes in the northwest mountains, Charleston, Columbia and the ACE Basin.  
North Carolina Members: 20
All locations in the state with an emphasis on the lakes in the northwest mountains.  
North Florida Members: 26
North of Ocala, including the Panhandle.  
South Florida Members: 6
Ocala and south, including the Everglades and the Florida Keys.  
Tennessee Members: 9
All locations in the state.
